The hammocks we sell are all hand-woven by Mayan
women in Yucatan, Mexico. The women work on hammocks
in order to supplement their family income. Since
the work is done at home, working conditions are
better than in factories. In this way the women and
men can work and take care of their children at the
same time. If they want to take a day off for
medical, family, or personal reasons, they do so
without the need to ask anyone's permission or
report to anyone. When they have finisheds the
hammocks, they deliver them to our company
representative or our representative goes to their
villages instead and picks them up.
Mexican Hammocks is a company located in Mérida,
Yucatán, México. Our company represents over seven
hundred Mayan families who hand weave in small
villages 100% of the hammocks we sell.
